New year – New OS, Deepin Linux for me

Deepin Desktop
Hi there everyone, it’s been a while since I last made a post. The year 2017 has been one of the worst years of my life, a lot has happened, and I really had no time or desire to post anything.

After a brutal year for me and the help of some good friends, I’m back from the dead and looking forward to the future.

Being a computer geek as I am, What a better way to start a new year, than a brand new OS? (Operating System).

For a while now I have been getting bored with Windows a little bit, besides my last installation of Windows 10 was giving me way too many headaches, so I decided it was time for a change.

Two months ago I decided to give Linux another try after years of not looking into the Linux world a lot, after reviewing some videos in YouTube, I again came across this Chinese Linux distro called “Deepin”, it looked good on video and to be honest I instantly felt attracted to it in a big way, the interface looked just beautiful.

Since the computer screen is something I look at for many hours a day I want it to look beautiful, so yeah, I decided to give Deepin a try and here I am.

I reformatted my entire drive and installed Deepin OS on it, so far I’m loving it and haven’t looked back, my Surface book still has Windows 10 on it. so I haven’t said Goodbye to Windows just yet, but my daily drive desktop runs Linux now and I’m simply in love with it.

In future posts I will update you guys on how my experience with Deepin has been so far.

For now I just want to wish you all a happy new year 2018!

Nexus 6P How to fix the yellow tint screen issue

Nexus 6PJust a few days after purchasing my Nexus 6P I couldn’t help it but notice the screen on my precious 6P had a slightly yellowish tint on the screen, first I tried to ignore it, I thought perhaps it was just my imagination or the type of graphics or pages I was looking at, but after a few more days I was convinced there was an issue with my Nexus 6P,  pages with totally white backgrounds looked slightly yellowish.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love this phone and I believe it’s simply the best phone I have ever had, I would buy it again in an instant, but this tint issue needed fixing,

The Fix

After researching a lot I could not come up with a solution, many people commented on the internet about how increasing the brightness of the device seemed to make the problem go away, but here I was increasing brightness to %100 with no improvement outcome, it became clear to me that brightness had nothing to do with the yellow tint on the screen.

That’s when it occurred to me that perhaps I should look into the store and find an app that would let me configure device settings other than just brightness,  after some searching on the store I found an application called “Screen Adjuster Free”.

Does 4K work over HDMI?

4K-HDMI 2.0You have your eyes on that beautiful 4K Monitor you saw at the store, but now you are wondering whether that beauty will work with the HDMI ports on your computer; will it even work with your existing HDMI cables? cables can be expensive, fortunately however not so expensive versions exist which you can buy,  they can be easily replaced. still what can you do about the HDMI ports? it’s not like you can just change them like you can do with your cables right?

Well in this article I have the answers you need, they are simple and straight to the point, so keep reading.

To answer the first question that brought you here quickly: Will  4K work over HDMI? the simple answer is: YES! but (there’s always a “but”Sad smile I know)  not on its first incarnation HDMI 1.0 that is, because of the high quality of the data transferred through the cables, 4K uses an insane amount of bandwidth, whence you will need HDMI 2.0 to be able to use 4K over it at its full glory, keep in mind you will need “High Speed” HDMI cables as well if you are existing cables are not.

Everything is not bad news though, you could even manage to connect a 4K monitor to your computer’s HDMI 1.0 port and it some cases (If the video card is fast enough to drive that beast of a monitor) you will be able get away with it, however keep in mind that the “refresh rate” factor will make your eyes bleed with that setup, unfortunately your monitor will only be able to run at a refresh rate of 30Hz, running on that configuration most certainly will make things on your screen look and feel slow or laggy, let alone playing games.
